Battle on the Hill
Dungannon Town Centre came alive on Friday evening with 400 runners taking on the inaugural One Mile Road Relay event.
The event was organised by Galbally Runners, in association with Choice Housing, and attracted people of all abilities to compete in teams of four to battle for honours on the iconic ‘Hill of the O’Neill’ in Dungannon. Teams included running clubs, families, sporting clubs, businesses and schools. This was a truly inclusive and diverse event, welcoming elite athletes, seasoned runners and absolute beginners to take on this historic one mile route.
The event was free to take part in, made possible with the support of Choice Housing, and was held as part of Good Relations Week 2023. Carol Ervine, Director of Tenant and Client Services in Choice Housing, welcomed the incredible turnout of runners and the fabulous atmosphere. Carol said, “Choice Housing are delighted to support this inaugural event and we appreciate the great work done by Galbally Runners in making it happen. This is a great celebration of diversity and inclusiveness and a great fit for Good Relations Week, which this year is about celebrating the ‘spirit of togetherness’.”
Brendan Woods, one of the organising team, was delighted with the success of the event and said, “This was a massive event in its first year and the feedback has been amazing.
