Armagh International Road Races.
One of the fastest 5K races in the world took place on Thursday night over at The Mall in Armagh. The evening seen a number of races take place starting off with some local youth races building its way up to the male 5K, female 3K and male open 3K. Some local clubs had youth runners out running at the event and a big highlight was Keep Er Lit’s Cara McGinty, Daughter of Galbally Runner Niall McGinty. Cara had finished in ninth place in a large field of high-quality youth runners. This was Cara’s second run of the week as Cara had finished 19 out of 117 runners in the Ulster Cross Country Championship two days earlier
.
No Galbally runners participated this year in the female 3K or the male 5K. Both events were amazing to watch as athletes in both events ran at a pulsating pace. Both the male 5K and female 3K had top athletes from all over Europe participate. The female event was a close race with just 1 second between the winner Alexandra Bell of Pudsley & Bramley A.C. (9.02) and Cari Hughes of On athletics A.C. Carfiff. In 3rd place was Calli Thackery of Hallamshire Harriers.
In the male 5K event the winning time was 13:37, with 17 of the runners finishing in under 13 minutes. 130 finished the race in under 15 minutes for the 5K whilst 169 ran a sub 16 minute 5K.
Galbally Runners Peter Cush and Fergal O’Donnell took part in the male open 3K event. This was the second time both runners participated in the Armagh International Road Races with Fergal O’Donnell running the 3K race in 10:07, a personal best for O’Donnell over that distance and Peter Cush getting in under the 10 minute mark with a time of 9:47 and also recording a personal best.

Donadea 50k
Well done to Richard Bradley who participated in the Donadea 50K race. Richard, in the middle of a tough gym training block, completed just over the marathon miles at this event and will be content with his performance as he prepares for future Ultra marathons this year.
